Meerabai The Mystical Singer
The Indian Mystical Singer of the 14th Century Meerabai (1498 -1547) was a Rajput princess born in Kurki a small village near Merta which is in the Nagaur district in Rajasthan. Her father was Ratan Singh Rathore who was a warrior of the Rathore clan. Her Mothers Name is not mentioned or known in any of the biography of Meerabai. Her mother was supportive of Meerabais religious tendencies but her mother died early.
When Meerabai was just six years old, her mother gave her an image of Krishna, with whom she would talk every day and night. Krishna became an integral part of Meera’s life. Meerabai was married to Prince Bhoj Raj at very early age. The new family did not approve of her devotion to Krishna as Meerabai refused to worship their family deity, and she would say that she was only truly married to Krishna. Meerabai lost her husband at very early age in the year 1527 in a battle against the Sultanate.
Meerabais devotion at first was confined to her and within the house, but at some time during her devotion she would be carried away with the joy and love for Krishna that she would dance away on the streets of the city singing the songs of praises and love for Krishna. Meerabai would get so engrossed in worshipping Krishna that she would forget herself. She has in that trance state created such beautiful writing which was the reflection of her heart. Meerabais poem and other composition reveal the different stages and experiences of her life. The prayer songs that she composed are still popular among the worshippers today.

Also what happened to Meerabai is a mystery. People still have a question as to how and where did Meerabai die. But as per the legend goes and the belief of the people Meeras unconditional love and devotion for Krishna, she vanished in the temple of Krishna in Dwarka.
